About JCC Maccabi Access

The Evelyn Rubenstein JCC in Houston is excited to host JCC Maccabi Access, a JCC Maccabi Games® experience for Jewish athletes (ages 12-22) with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The event will take place August 4 -7, 2024.

Access athletes, with one-to-one support, participate in the JCC Maccabi Games®, including both unified and specialized activities. The program offers an inclusive and meaningful way for Access athletes to join thousands of their Jewish peers from around the world in experiencing the magic of Maccabi.

This three-and-a-half-day program offers Access athletes:

  • Athletic skill development and competition
  • Hangtime (Israel programming)
  • JCC Cares community service
  • Exploration of the six JCC Maccabi midot (values)
  • Social activities
  • Opening and closing ceremonies

To ensure our Access athletes and their families successfully integrate into the JCC Maccabi Games® and activities, JCC Association and the Evelyn Rubenstein JCC will offer ways for athletes to connect with their delegation and meet other Access participants prior to the Games.

No, local Houston Maccabi Access athletes and 1:1 may sleep at their respective homes and are expected to meet their 1:1 each morning.

Anyone, over the age of 21, who feels comfortable with the responsibility of providing 1:1 support for an Access athlete can serve as a 1:1. This can be a family member, general support person, JCC staff member, volunteer, etc. It is best if the 1:1 is familiar with the athlete and their specific needs.

A draft schedule is available soon. As part of Access Athlete’s registration, you will be asked to complete a sports skills and interest form, which will help us determine which sports are played during the sports activity blocks.

The host community works closely with a wide variety of local, state and federal agencies to determine the security needs for the Games.

Credentials are a visible identification badge for anyone participating in any aspect of the Games. These credentials allow the security team to determine access and help keep our venues secure. They must be worn at all times, no exceptions. If credentials are lost, replacement credentials are available at Maccabi Central.

Spectators are also required to obtain a spectator pass which permits entry into Games venues and opening ceremonies only.
